This show may not be as bad as I think it is. But yes, that’s a very good point. The show is all over the place. Sometimes it’s just a bunch of people in a room talking about comics. Other times, it’s a man who looks like a comic book writer talking to a guy in a comic book suit. Sometimes its the other way around.
Like I said, there is no “bad” about the show. There are bits that could be better. But the character of Vahn is a little too similar to a friend of mine from college. When I first see him in this trailer, I thought, “this guy looks like Robert Ludlum.” So I’m not too shocked when I find out he’s not the writer who created that character.
I’m not sure how you can tell when somebody has been “inspired” to write a comic book when they can’t even remember how they got started. I mean, it doesn’t make sense that a dude who went to a comic book convention in the 1990s when he was in high school wouldn’t remember how he got started as a comic book writer. But there you go, no bad about the guy.
It’s hard to say why people don’t remember how they got started as a comic book writer, but it’s probably because they were never taught that they were supposed to. Comics were always meant to be read in one sitting or on the couch, so you kind of have to know your way around a comic book to get a good read, but you don’t actually have to be a professional writer to do it.
