There are two types of registration for.us domains: “country code” and “country name”. Country code domain registration allows you to register a domain for a country from which you want to get your domain name. This means that if you want to register domain name domain.us, you can register it where you will be located, which is not only much easier, but also gives you all the benefits of a country name domain, such as the ability to use the domain name in email addresses.
And just like that, you’ve unlocked the world of.us domain names. Like.com,.net,.us,.org, and.biz. And you probably already know about.us.org, though there are rumors that one of the top tech companies in the world is looking at it as a possible naming solution. In the interim, we’ll leave you with a quick review of the.us domain name restrictions.
Your.us domain names are restricted to.com,.net,.org, and.biz. And as an interesting side note, we know that people will use.com in emails because.com is so ubiquitous among internet users. However, many people will use.net and.org in mail because of the vast amount of people with.net/org email addresses, and.biz because of the wealth of companies with.biz domains. The only reason why you might need.
As an aside, in order to be able to register a.biz,.net, or.org domain name, you need to be a US citizen or permanent resident.
But why do you need to be US citizens to register a.biz, a.net, or.org domain name? One reason is that many people who use a.biz and a.net have a US address, and one of the best ways to find out if you’re one of these people is to check the IP address (not the host) you get when you open an email from a.biz or a.net domain.
But more importantly, it might be worth considering what you really want to register your domain for. Many.biz and.net domain names are used by people who are not US citizens. For example, you could register a.biz for a.biz.me, a.net for a.net.me, a.org for a.org.me, and a.us for a.us.me.
The problem is that.biz.me,.net.me,.org.me, and.us.me are all US domain names. Some businesses and organizations do not want to register them because they may cause problems for people using their services in the US. If you want to register your own domain name, you can register it for free in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and Hong Kong.
However, not registering a.us domain name does make it harder for people who are in the US to get to you. Google currently indexes.us.net,.us.org, and.us.biz, so if you are in the US, it is almost impossible to see your website in the search results.
I’m not saying it’s impossible to get to you! I’m just saying it’s a bit harder to get your website indexed.
There are two possible reasons for this. First, Google takes a look at your site’s IP address when it indexes your site and then compares that inbound IP address to your.us domain names. If there is a match, your website will get a higher ranking. Second, because people are still buying.us domains, your site is getting indexed even when you don’t.
