When I was in elementary school, I always wanted to explore how it all started, and I was very excited when I found this book. I’ve always loved the book as a way to make the most of my childhood memories of my home, which was in my backyard, but I was always wondering if I was going to make it all up or if I just wanted to be home.
The main thrust of this book is a collection of eight-page maps of the city-state of Los Angeles, which I’ve been living in the last few years. This list is as good as it gets, and the maps are not only pretty, but well-structured and detailed. I’ve managed to come up with a few ideas, too, with some basic ideas and just a few pictures.
First you have to decide whether or not a map is better suited for your particular area. The most important thing to make sure about your home is a map of your neighborhood, which will have an eye for any potential home that can be built.
My home is in the very heart of the Hollywood (Santa Monica) district (and thus surrounded by the major tourist destinations of Hollywood and the Valley), which means I’ve got lots of potential targets (both residential and commercial). I also have a lot of area that I can call my own, so a map is really the best thing I can want when it comes to planning out my neighborhood.
It’d be nice if there was a tool like this, but unfortunately there isn’t. The closest thing I know of is a tool that lets you make a map of your neighborhood, sort by price, neighborhood, and so forth. Unfortunately this tool (and others like it) can only show you what you’ve already been told about your neighborhood and doesn’t allow you to add in any new information.
So, like most planners and architects, I am also a huge fan of “planning by numbers,” but not only is that not a tool I use very often, it is also a type of planning that is rarely used. It’s like the guy who sits down and puts together a plan for a new house and tries to be precise about how everything is going to function. That’s fine for most of us.
I agree with you, but I want to say that I have to think about it this way: when I am designing a new building or renovation, I will try to think about every possibility, and then I will try to give details or specific ideas, but, like a lot of planning, I will leave it to the client to make the final call about how everything will run.
I agree. You should think about every possibility, but at the same time, you should be careful when you go into the design phase. I know that a lot of times the end result isn’t what you planned, but I think that the initial idea, as well as the final design, should be clear.
The biggest risk is that you’ll end up with a horrible, old house that’s going to be destroyed. That’s gonna put you in the worst position to have a mess of nothing, and you’ll end up with a mess that you’ll want to clean up afterwards.
The best thing to do is to try to have as few contingencies as possible in your design. The best way to do that is to have an initial idea of what you want and stick with that so you can change it if you need to. Then you should work out how you want to move forward, and what your goals are. In fact, you should never stop with the initial idea of how you want to design something until you have a concrete plan of how you want to move forward.
